Building a party that survives the mid-game

May 6, 2026 · Lena Hoffmann

Mobile RPGs love to lull you into a comfortable early game, then slam the difficulty right around the mid-point. A lot of people stall there simply because their party wasn't built with the long haul in mind.

Cover your roles. You almost always want sustain, damage, and some form of crowd control. Hollowreach, for example, punishes all-attacker parties hard once enemies start hitting back in groups.

Don't spread upgrades thin. Pour resources into a core group rather than levelling everyone a little. A strong focused party beats six half-trained characters every time.

Pay attention to elemental or type systems early. Games that build weaknesses into combat reward players who adapt their lineup to each fight instead of brute-forcing it.

Finally, keep one flexible slot. A swappable character lets you answer whatever the next area throws at you without rebuilding your whole roster.
